Training Risk Assessors and Key Trainers in the Safe Handling of people

Aims

The course that shows how to create a safe system of work in any situation where people have to move people

  • Use current evidence base and assessment tools to identify the risks of the old manual techniques
  • See how poor manual handling can limit the patient's abilities and life choices
  • Find out why nurses, carers and patients are being injured by out of date manual handling techniques
  • Learn to use the patient's abilities to move without assistance.
  • Become familiar with all types of equipment and techniques
  • Gain an understanding of the issues involved in implementing a safer handling policy

The course is presented by Danielle Holmes one of the main authors of the Revised Fourth edition of the Guide to the Handling of Patients published by the Royal College of Nursing (RCN) in conjunction with the BackCare (National Back Pain Association).

Danielle is one of the leading figures in establishing safe handling practices in hospital, the community, schools and wherever people handle people.

  • Understand the role and responsibilities of management in creating a safe system of work
  • Money Issues (How to get the Finance director on side when money has to be spent.)
  • Health and Safety Policies to lay the foundation of understanding
  • Effective management of accident reporting - getting the benefits out of an accident
  • Keeping effective records to protect you in court

Training to be a Trainer

  • Learn how to teach colleagues, co-workers and staff to handle safely
  • For delegates with no previous experience of training the course provides basic skills to teach colleagues as a key trainer
  • Delegates with existing teaching qualifications will gain insights and skills to enable them to extend their training to the field of patient handling
  • Define units of learning to be taught in separate sessions
  • Preparing Teaching plans
  • Set up monitoring systems to ensure that everyone who needs to, receives training
